Interesting, a combination of Triumph Bobber (seat suspension) and Ducati (frame and exhaust) w/ supposedly 120 hp.

Damn, the bike breakdown is amazing and that scroll dash. Come on Triumph (makes the Bobber look like a toy)! Link

Rich, that's a sweet bike. I wouldn't mind having one. I would have plant my arse on one to see if it fits. The one thing I don't like is the exhaust cans. They seem to be to big and radically upswung. Maybe this week I will find an Indian dealer and go for a ride

I believe it may be a little bit before they're in showrooms. Pre orders are being taken.

As I said I like it, but it going to cost quite a bit for the performance model.

What I don't get is the Bobber and FTR1200 have 1200 cc engines But the Indian has 60% more HP.

If I weren't in the middle of doing something stupid I would look up some of the reasons why.
Somehow they lighten up the wieght of rotating mass giving it a higher rpm. There is probably more than just this but I recall that being one of the reasons. Would like to take one for a ride.
After riding a bird most bikes seem so small. I sure it's a matter of getting used to it. this bike sure seems to have alot to it. I could be persuaded

What I discovered and like about the Indian first and fore most,is the tires, because they are BIAS,unlike the radials Triumph uses, which BTW ,don't last worth a shit.I'm at 14,000 miles right now,and the tires are still original and only about half worn, not to mention, this is a heavy machine weighing in around the 840 lb. mark. Now if it was my Tbird,I'd be headed for my fourth set of tires in that same mileage, and I never drove it hard. And like I tell everyone when they ask me about my Indian,I tell em,if ya wanna go fast in a hurry, you do NOT want this machine. However, this new FTR,or whatever Indian calls it,is supposed to go like a bullet and they are infact, comparing it to the V Max.I haven't seen it yet,but Indian is sure rantin and ravin about it. Dave!!!

As they say, if the shoe fits wear it. I mean the bias tire is perfect for your riding style. But there's a reason why Triumph didn't offer it....can't handle Thunderbird's performance characteristics imo. Anyway, you'll end up bored not tinkering on a bike.

As for Indian's new model, good for them. I'm sure HD has taken notice (Polaris chips away). And a nice bike but it wouldn't replace my comfy long distance bomber :)

...good to hear from you Dave.

I will be 62 soon, and I see one more bike in my future. This Indian seems to have a lot going for it. It's a couple hundred pounds lighter and that's a plus.

No it's not that, although I do like the chap. Something about its stance, it's specs, and I might need a change in a year or two. Maybe I can get a used one.

It's definitely a different ride style, a hustler and not a cruiser. You'll probably see one in the Spring.

So today I did the deed. I went to an Indian dealership and put down a refundable deposit on the FTR 1200. Black with grey on tank S model.
17k? Do I want to spend that kind of money knowing my bird is worth close to nothing?
The dealership is getting 11 bikes so I won't have to wait any extra time on it. I don't like buying the first model year for the bugs need to be worked out. The But then again my bike has it's bugs. So yeah it's exciting, the cost is not.
I do have time to think about it and strip the bird down with winter approaching and sell off the add ons. Any member speak your mind. I won't/ don't become flattered or insulted easily. I realize you have fact mixed with opinions.
So what do you think? Seating position is going to mean alot to me, the rest of the bike is probably quality.
Let's have it like a shot of tequila straight up or chilled

Are You Kidding, did Indian Dave put you up to this!??

Anyway, Congrats Ray and sweet bike ...i wish you well in the new adventure! As for seating and looking at photos, it depends on how far your body travels comfortably in a sport (track) bike configuration. Maybe you can arrange a demo ride (50+ miles) before buying if necessary.

When I ordered my Thunderbird in 2009, I put down a deposit with anticipation! To this day I remember the first ride ....

That's what it comes down to Rich. The deposit is refundable. If it doesn't fit me then no dice.
I got the impression that they aren't keen on demo rides with these bikes.

Talk to me Kevin. Call me even better. Because of the low resale value of the bird this may never happen. I could really explain myself in more detail if you don't mind calling, any member!!
It's up to you, would be great hearing from you all. As it is I am a bit confused but it's months away with a refundable deposit.

go for it but you should always have at least have 2 bikes and why give the tbird away, as you say they are not worth much.
then you have a cruiser for long rides and something to play with around town.

Cool Ray, you make your choices based on you. The anticipation is going to drive ya bonkers.

For me pushing 62 that bike looks to be a bit uncomfortable but who knows until you get a ride on it.
Here's what I do know, if it's anything like the scout it will be quick as shit!

So best wishes to ya, I hope it's just what your'e looking for.

On a side note, I pre-ordered and put down a deposit in a 2018 Speedmaster/Bonneville. Waited over four months for it to arrive.
It was beautiful, they tossed me the keys, I took it for a spin, came back and just decided it was not for me. Too small, too much $$$.

I would have own one of the first two/three in the US but It was not meant to be.

Thanks Hornet. As I said this may or not be a reality for me. I also thought of comfort. I am
not into long treks as I used to be. But I still have to like it. On the problem side: my t- bird isn't worth much . I may keep it. Spending money for a new ride is disturbing. So I can wait it out. This bike is 31" from the seat so it might be alright. It's not cafe style.
But to pull money out of my account( retirement)
Makes me wonder how wise it is. I have. 4 months to figure it out or come to my senses.
You would think I would be full of shits and giggles but I am not even though I am not committed to it. To be honest I am confused but I didn't lose nothing but serenity. So we will see. I do like the idea of it being new and not have to chase after fixing worn out parts. If I go for it it will probably be my last bike, 200 lbs lighter.

Triumph dealerships aren't a problem around here, nor is Indian. But triumphs techs can be, not sure about the FTR.
to all my forum buddies

The FTR won't replace the Thunderbird in the cruiser category (and interstate travel). After all, it's not a cruiser but a sport/track bike. And I'm sure a hell of a lot of fun zipping around town!

Rich it's all going to come down to rider position, my financials, and the balls to do it. I have a fine bike, so it's not dissatisfaction. It's the future I am concerned about. Heavy gets heavier, wear and tear gets torn. Who knows if parts will be available. For all I know I will end up with a with a rat bobber that never needs to much attention. A good looking bike is appealing, and a rat Bobber has it's own distinction. As you see I am very confused at this point
